Kent State's Chris Evans has been selected as the StatSheet MAC Player of the Week for the week ending February 18th. StatSheet's MAC Freshman of the Week is Western Michigan's Connar Tava. And finally, Richaun Holmes from Bowling Green takes home StatSheet's MAC 6th Man of the Week.
Evans was the best in the MAC in rebounding (13.5 per game). He also put up 60% shooting and 20 points per game. The Kent State senior put these numbers up in a win versus Miami (OH) and an unfortunate loss to Ohio.
Evans led all scoring and rebounding for the Golden Flashes with 22 points and 13 rebounds in an 87-70 win over Miami (OH). In the next game he led all scoring and rebounding with a 18 point and 14 rebound performance in a 78-75 loss to Ohio.
This is a familiar honor for Chris Evans, who has been named StatSheet MAC Player of the Week three times. The runner-up this week is Shayne Whittington, a junior from Western Michigan. Honorable mention goes to our own Walter Offutt.
StatSheet MAC Freshman of the Week: Western Michigan's Connar Tava
Connar Tava averaged 22 minutes starting both games for Western Michigan. In a 70-60 loss to Bowling Green, Tava tallied 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Following that in a 66-58 win against Northern Illinois, he added 12 points and 8 rebounds.
This is the second StatSheet MAC Freshman of the Week award for Connar Tava. The runner-up is Jarryn Skeete from Buffalo. Honorable mention goes to Chris Fowler from Central Michigan.
StatSheet MAC 6th Man of the Week: Bowling Green's Richaun Holmes
Sophomore Richaun Holmes, a 6-8 reserve forward, averaged 27 minutes of action over two games for the Falcons. In a 70-60 win against Western Michigan, Holmes got 8 points and 9 rebounds. Then in a 67-50 loss to Akron, he led all scoring and rebounding with 15 points and 8 rebounds.
This is the second time this season that Richaun Holmes has won the StatSheet MAC 6th Man of the Week. David Brown, a junior guard from Western Michigan, is the runner up. Matt Kamieniecki, a junior forward from Ball State, receives honorable mention. Ohio has won the StatSheet MAC Player of the Week award once this season.
